MEMPHIS—Christian Brothers University softball coach Kimmi Hayden has announced the signing of Wallace State Community College pitcher Kaylea Brewer to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Lady Bucs next spring.
Brewer, a native of Pulaski, Tenn., was 9-3 with a 1.01 ERA this season at Wallace State (Ala.), helping the Lady Lions to the NJCAA National Championship as a freshman and an NJCAA National Runner-Up finish as a sophomore. The Lady Lions went 63-10 this year, losing 2-1 to Yavapai (Ariz.) in the national championship game.
She also excelled at the plate, hitting .333 and slugging .458 as she also played first base.
Prior to enrolling at Wallace State, Brewer was a four-year All-District player at Giles County HS. She was named to the All-Midstate Team twice. As a senior, Brewer hit .370 with five homers and 14 RBI, and she graduated as the class salutatorian.
She will have two years of eligibility at CBU.
Brewer is the Lady Bucs' fourth signee this spring, joining Olive Branch catcher Emily Schmidt, Murfreesboro Blackman infielder Lauren Dorsett and Carlsbad, Calif., pitcher Michelle McEachron.
